HOLIDAY TOUR IN DEPOT GREAT ROOM

Brrr!  Winter is here in case anyone hasn't noticed.  Doesn't take a meteorologist to figure it out.  Good day to stay indoors and putz around.  I am the biggest procrastinator when it comes to wrapping gifts.  I don't know why, it just isn't my favorite thing to do, besides I am not as gifted , pardon the pun, in this area.  Before I forget be sure to visit my holiday kitchen tour here  Holiday kitchen tour and my Holiday dining table setting in the depot  Holiday dining table setting in the depot.

This morning I thought I would show you a few photos of my great room (its not that I'm bragging that it's a great room, I've seen better) while the sun is shining somewhat.  I did decide to move the white rocker bench into the "Great Room" for extra seating when guests come for Christmas.

I've sure enjoyed browsing through several blogs that are showing their beautiful holiday homes.  Some very talented gals out there.  This year I'm going with less is more theme.  Maybe I'm just being lazy, but I do know how much work it is to take it all down too.  Well I am off to the grocery store to gather ingredients for some chili tonight with a side of cornbread and warm tapioca pudding.  Good night for it.  It is 5 below zero here right now.  Hope you have a wonderful day my friends!  Stay warm.

This year I decided to have a large Charlie Brown tree.  My husband calls it a feather looking tree.  Well I guess it kinda resembles one.

This is on of my favorite mirrors I had purchased at the Country Living fair in Atlanta.

EVER CHANGING GREAT ROOM

Happy holidays my friends.  Just thought I would give myself a break from the holiday theme and just post about how many ways I have changed one room in my little depot. I can't begin to tell you how many times I have moved furniture, added or removed a piece of furniture, changed pillows or rugs.  Oh, and I also switched coffee tables a time or two.

Am I the only one out there that has an obsession a thing about having to change decor in a room at least every other month?  I think my reasons are this.... I moved into this smaller renovated RR depot from a very large home and with a smaller space I am always trying new ways to make it appear spacious.

Have you ever heard someone say that they wanted to downsize?  Not me.  Well, I take that back.  I had a moment when I thought that I too would like to downsize to make my life easier.  Wrong.... I find myself constantly cleaning because the smaller the space or home, the messier it can look faster.  Every inch of a smaller home is used more often is my theory.  Oh well.  Soon I will be moving into the mill and I will probly complain it's to big.  Well, anywho, I thought I would show you how many times I had changed my great room after only living here for less than a year and a half.  I could not find some of my photos that would show a few more changes but there are plenty here.  As you will see I have a thing for pillows, rugs, and furniture.  Enjoy.  Have a blessed day my friends.

HOLIDAY TABLE SETTING IN DEPOT

Good day my friends.  Just finished up my dining table here in the depot.  This table is really not made for entertaining more than 4 guests because of it's narrow size.  With that said I only used one side for tableware just to give some of you folks an idea for your holiday table setting.

Since we are talking about realistic table settings....have you ever seen a beautiful table setting with so much height in the middle of the table?  Well keep in mind that when entertaining guests you want to have guests able to see other guests sitting across from them.
My dear friend Sandy made a constructive suggestion.  She sometimes struggles with balance and flow when creating vignettes in her beautiful home.  So I will do my best from now on to describe why I did what I did (huh?, does that sound stupid?).  Well I never claimed to be perfect in writing, but you get the point, right?.  Check out this fake candle called Luminara.  It's flame is almost just like the real flame, flickers and glow that you really have to look close to tell difference. They are quite expensive to say the least.  I would love to have many more but budget, budget, budget!  I will have to obtain one here and there so it's not a shocker on the wallet.

When I create a centerpiece for my table I always start with something that has height or I make the height with books, baskets, bowls, etc.  In this instance I started with a faux pine tree that was inside of this old white ironstone bowl filled with wonderfully scented pine cones and extra pine greenery and added plain ornaments for a pop of shimmer and color.

Next, is when I experiment with other different heights as I did here with candle stands and candle pillars.  I never have things the same height, just doesn't flow together at all.  Then I added other table fillers such as berries and pine on the table.  I love these 2 ceramic deer I purchased from Target.  They look great here with the white bowls and dishes on the table.  Angled them, added a few touches of more ornaments on the table and tada!

The red paisley table runner, plaid napkins, red cheer tumblers and white chippy candle pillars are from Pottery Barn.  My favorite store!

I used a colorful paisley table runner as a base for my color scheme.  Added plaid napkins for different texture but in the same colors.  Since my preference was to have a smaller bowl or plate in a different color such as red or silver with a slight pattern to set on top of the white plate, I had to make do with this scenario.  I added one plaid napkin under red charger that hangs over the table a little ways.  Then for more color instead of starring at a white plate I put another plaid napkin.  For ambiance a small candle votive is a nice tough of elegance.

I do hope that you enjoyed my lil table setting for the holidays.  I just can't wait until my husband makes my harvest table for the mill.  I already gave him measurements of how big I want.  We measured at the mill where I want it to go so there will be enough room for it.  Well that's another story for another day.  Hope that you have a wonderful day.  There are some beautiful ideas for decorating floating around in blog land that It is so easy to gather inspiration for your home.  Have a wonderful week.  See you soon to show you my living room, so I'd better get crackin!
